Overview

BW Gold is a wholly owned subsidiary of Artemis Gold Inc (“Artemis”). Artemis is listed on the TSX Venture exchange, and is a well-financed, growth-oriented gold development company with strong financials aimed at creating shareholder value through the identification, acquisition, and development of gold properties in mining friendly jurisdictions. Our current focus is construction of the Blackwater Mine in central British Columbia approximately 160km southwest of Prince George and 450km northeast of Vancouver.

Artemis Gold received its BC Mines Act permit for Blackwater Mine in March 2023 enabling the project to move into major works construction. 

 

Reporting to the Manager - Metallurgy, the Chief Metallurgist is responsible for overseeing and directing metallurgical processes, reporting, and providing leadership to the metallurgical team.

 

Schedule: 2 weeks on - 2 weeks off

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate effective safety leadership by addressing and enforcing BW Golds safety standards, procedures, and safety systems.
  • Work closely with operations, develop procedures, provide instructions, technical inputs and reports to support the commissioning, ramp-up and regular operation that are aligned with best practices in the industry.
  • Work with operation personnel and corporate technical services to define technical or operational challenges and opportunities and initiate/manage the projects for continuous improvement of metallurgy and overall plant performance.
  • Provide input into processing operations strategies and technology development.
  • Develop the production budget/forecast together with the process manager, maintenance and operation personnel.
  • Ensure efficient operation of cyanide detoxification for tailings treatment and disposal and address problem areas.
  • Work closely with the environmental department to manage the site water balance and associated water treatment requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental legislation and standards.
  • Oversee the routine production reporting, metal accounting and communication of KPIs of process metallurgy, process plant production and operation costs.
  • Provide guidance on activities related to metallurgical test work conducted in laboratories, plant and testing facilities.
  • Take a leading role in the employment and development of metallurgical team.
  • Manage the plant information system and works in close liaison with the on-site lab team.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or above degree in Metallurgy, Mineral Engineering, or equivalent engineering discipline is required.
  • Professional designation or certification in a related area is required.
  • Minimum 10 years of metallurgical and/or mineral processing industrial experience, including 2+ years experience at a senior supervisory role.
  • Solid knowledge/understanding of gold metallurgy, plant operations, workplace safety and control strategies of ore processing.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with a focus on continuous improvement and innovation.
  • Possess excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to interact professionally with different departments.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and demonstrate project management skills.
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to create a positive work environment.
  • Excellent practical understanding of plant operations and plant metallurgy.
  • Attention to detail with excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to handle a high level of confidentiality.
  • Ability to work at a remote location camp on a 2 weeks on/2 weeks off rotation.
  • Comfortable working and living in close quarters with the team.
