Overview

BW Gold is a wholly owned subsidiary of Artemis Gold Inc (“Artemis”). Artemis is listed on the TSX Venture exchange, and is a well-financed, growth-oriented gold development company with strong financials aimed at creating shareholder value through the identification, acquisition, and development of gold properties in mining friendly jurisdictions. Our current focus is construction of the Blackwater Mine in central British Columbia approximately 160km southwest of Prince George and 450km northeast of Vancouver.

Artemis Gold received its BC Mines Act permit for Blackwater Mine in March 2023 enabling the project to move into major works construction. Reporting to the Director of Safety, Security & Emergency Response, the Superintendent, Safety – Surface Mine Operations is responsible for the implementation and sustainment of the BW Gold safety management program to include critical risk standards across the mine site.

 

Location: Blackwater Mine Site - located 160km southwest of Prince George, BC. 

 

Schedule: Two (2) Weeks On - Two (2) Weeks Off Rotation

 

 

Responsibilities

• Assist the Director of Safety in coordinating the Safety department in providing the appropriate training and safety guidance to all employees in all departments.
• Demonstrate effective safety leadership by promoting and enforcing BW Golds’ safety standards, procedures, and safety systems.
• Provide leadership, coaching and mentorship to the safety supervisors, safety advisors and safety trainees within the department.
• Regularly audit and inspect the operation for compliance with the HSRC for Mines in BC, Regulations, and company policies / procedures.
• Audit the workplace, identify hazards, and make recommendations to reduce exposure to the workforce.
• Oversee the inherent programs i.e., Hazard/ Risk Safety System, Safety Meetings, Event Reporting and Investigation quality, Action Management, Contractor Safety Management.
• Report to managers on the safety and health status of their departments.
• Advise workers, supervisors, and management personnel on technical safety & health matters to include industry best practices.
• Liaise with regulatory authorities at the site level to promote safety and assist in resolving any issues of non-compliance.
• Advise trainers on the safety and health content of training courses.
• Analyze safety data; prepare and distribute reports.
• Assists in the maintenance and creation of safety standards, policies, and procedures.
• Prepares and facilitates health and safety related meetings and training.
• Facilitate investigations identifying root cause, contributing factors and corrective actions.
• Remains up to date on all safety-related regulations and codes.
• Coordinates the implementation of new systems or improvements to existing systems; monitors effectiveness, taking best practice principles into account (e.g., equipment, noise, and personal protective clothing, etc.)
• Coordinates with department managers and line management regarding the review and implementation of safety policies and procedures and determination of safety needs; acts as a technical safety resource.
• Reviews Field Level Hazard Assessment (FLHA) cards for quality and compliance with the FLHA program; identifies workers needing additional guidance or training to improve the quality of hazard assessment, incident, and risk mitigation.
• Coordinate health and safety activities including wellbeing activities.
• Other duties as assigned/required.

Qualifications

• Minimum 10 years of Safety leadership experience in an open pit surface mine.
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Occupational Health and Safety Systems Management.
• Experience in surface mining operations including drill & blast, mobile maintenance, load, haul dump operations, crushing operations and mine traffic management.
• Experience interacting with mines inspectors and exceptional knowledge of local mine regulations.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Surface Mine Rescue Certification preferred.
• Experience with Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams.
