Overview

BW Gold is a wholly owned subsidiary of Artemis Gold Inc (“Artemis”). Artemis is listed on the TSX Venture exchange, and is a well-financed, growth-oriented gold development company with strong financials aimed at creating shareholder value through the identification, acquisition, and development of gold properties in mining friendly jurisdictions. Our current focus is construction of the Blackwater Mine in central British Columbia approximately 160km southwest of Prince George and 450km northeast of Vancouver.

Artemis Gold received its BC Mines Act permit for Blackwater Mine in March 2023 enabling the project to move into major works construction.  

 

Reporting to the Payroll and Benefits Supervisor, the Payroll and Benefits Specialist supports the accurate and timely administration of payroll processes and employee benefits programs. This role plays a key part in ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, maintaining confidentiality, and contributing to a supportive work environment.

Schedule: Monday to Friday 

Responsibilities

  • Payroll Support: Process payroll accurately and on time while following established procedures and ensuring compliance with the Employment Standards Act, Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), and Income Tax Act & Regulations. This includes bi-weekly timesheet review & maintenance for all employees.Data Management: Enter and verify payroll data for new hires, terminations, and changes in employment status, ensuring accuracy in the HRIS system (e.g., Ceridian Dayforce).
  • Benefits Administration: Support the administration of employee benefits programs, including extended health, dental, and RRSP plans, by updating records and responding to employee inquiries.
    Reconciliations: Reconcile payroll and benefits data, ensuring proper allocation to general ledger accounts and cost centers.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Prepare and compile payroll-related reports, tax forms (e.g., T4s), and remittances. Assist with year-end processes and audits.
  • Employee Support: Act as a first point of contact for routine payroll and benefits questions, escalating complex inquiries to the Supervisor when necessary.
  • Confidentiality: Maintain strict confidentiality of payroll and benefits information to protect employee privacy and build trust.
  • Process Improvement: Contribute to creating and maintaining payroll and benefits manuals by flagging inconsistencies or inefficiencies for review.
  • Team Collaboration: Assist the accounting team with month-end tasks and ad-hoc reporting. Support the Payroll Supervisor as requested. Work alongside the HR team to streamline processes, answer queries and update project timelines.
  • Regulatory: Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of new acts, laws and regulations that affect the company’s payroll or employee schedules.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in full-cycle Canadian payroll processing and benefits administration.
  • Experience in managing rotational workforce schedules using averaging agreements in the mining or industrial construction sectors is preferred.
  • Payroll Compliance Professional Designation (PCP) is required.
  • A bachelor’s degree in an associated field, from a recognized institution in Canada, is preferred.
  • Familiarity with the Employment Standards Act (BC) and its practical application.
  • Experience with Ceridian Dayforce is considered an asset. Similar HRIS/payroll systems are preferred.
  • Intermediate proficiency with MS Excel. (e.g. understanding and application of lookup, sumif and embedded functions).
  • Proficiency in all other Microsoft Office Suite applications. (Word, Outlook, Power Point etc…).
  • A basic understanding of accounting principles, including two-sided entries and movements between expense accounts and the balance sheet.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Excellent communication skills to interact effectively with employees and team members.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Collaborative mindset with a willingness to support team goals and initiatives.
