Overview

Reporting to the Supervisor – Mining, you will be responsible for efficiently operating and maintaining heavy equipment used for loading materials onto trucks and other transport vehicles.

 

Location: Blackwater Mine Site

 

Schedule: Two (2) Weeks On – Two (2) Weeks Off Rotation

Responsibilities

  • Operate a Hitachi 3600 mass excavator in a safe, efficient, and productive manner.

  • Load haul trucks with raw material or waste, maintaining cycle times and minimizing spillage.

  • Conduct pre-operational checks and routine inspections to ensure machine safety and performance.

  • Communicate clearly with supervisors, dispatch, haul truck drivers, and other operators to maintain workflow and safety.

  • Maintain compliance with site safety standards, procedures, and environmental regulations.

    Participate in shift handovers and toolbox talks.

  • Adhere to safety regulations and guidelines, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

  • Monitor equipment performance and report any malfunctions or maintenance needs to the supervisor.

  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment, including the equipment and surrounding areas.

  • Complete daily logs, reports, and documentation as required by company policies and project specifications.

  • Follow established procedures for equipment operation and maintenance to ensure longevity and optimal performance.

  • Complete daily pre-op and post-op inspections on equipment and report any deficiencies.
  • Participate in safety meetings, training sessions, and other company initiatives to promote a culture of safety.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of experience operating mass excavators 
  • Demonstrated experience operating large mining equipment (dozers, graders, loaders).
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Certifications in equipment operation are a plus. 
  • Experience working with MineStar GPS fleet management systems or similar.
  • Valid drivers license.
  • Knowledge of and adherence to safety protocols and regulations.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team.
  • Physical fitness and stamina for prolonged periods of outdoor work and heavy equipment operation.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality work.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours and overtime as required by project demands.
  • OFA 3 and/or Mine Rescue Certification would be an asset.
  • Ability to read survey stakes is an asset.

  • Be prepared to actively participate in positive and safe working atmosphere.

  • Ability to stay alert and pay attention to detail during all hours and weather conditions.

  • Good hand-eye coordination and spatial awareness.

  • Ability to safely climb and access equipment, as well as lift heavy objects up to 50lbs.
