Overview

Reporting to the Superintendent Geology, the Database Specialist is responsible for management of an SQL based geological database. Responsibilities also include importing and validation of new data and performing regular QA/QC checks to ensure data integrity. This position is expected to demonstrate and promote Blackwater Gold’s eight (8) behavioural standards. The behavioural standards should be considered when developing the positions key responsibilities and deliverables, qualifications and experience, and skills.   

 

This role can be based out of our Prince George or Vancouver Office and will require travel to the Blackwater Mine Site for 1 week on a quarterly basis (minimum). 

 

Responsibilities

• Managing a geological SQL based database for the Geology and near mine exploration teams.
• Establishing workflows and automating processes for efficiency.
• Providing technical support to the geology team to support of mining operations.
• Performing QA/QC and authentication for all geoscientific data.
• Managing and integrating incoming data from field programs into the database.
• Developing and maintain documentation of database procedures and problem resolutions.
• Producing maps for field use, processing field data and incorporating data into the database for use in GIS and mine planning software packages.
• Creating maps and graphics for formal presentations and publications, including press releases and investor presentations.
• Have a full understanding of global coordinate systems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Geology, Geoscience, Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field
• Experience in Mining / mineral exploration
• SQL Database training / certification is an asset
• Experience with Geobank or similar programmes (Datashed, acQuire) is an asset
• Experience with Geology / Mine Planning software or GIS is an asset
