Reporting to the Supervisor – Electrical & Instrumentation, the Instrumentation & Controls technician is responsible for ensuring safe, reliable and effective operation & maintenance of process control instrumentation and Process Control Systems across site/

This position is expected to demonstrate and promote Blackwater Gold’s eight (8) behavioural standards. The behavioural standards should be considered when developing the positions key responsibilities and deliverables, qualifications and experience, and skills.

Schedule: Two (2) Weeks On – Two (2) Weeks Off Rotation

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support, guidance and coaching to site personnel on best practice and technical matters related to instrumentation selection and use
  • Conduct performance evaluations to identify operational limitations and initiate steps to enhance system performance
  • Install, calibrate, and maintain control and measurement instruments according to manufacturer’s specifications and site-specific regulations
  • Troubleshoot and correct related technical malfunctions with instrumentation and process control equipment
  • Create and alter programming for PLC control systems
  • Modify configuration of instruments, control system components and other field devices to ensure reliable operation.
  • Inspect and test instruments and systems to diagnose faults using test instruments such as multimeters, simulators, communicators, software etc. Run cables for Process control systems and Instrumentation
  • Install Instrumentation air piping and tubing for new and existing instruments
  • Prepare and submit regular feedback on work orders resulting from maintenance activities to improve maintenance plans, records and task lists
  • Maintain accurate documentation, calibration reports, drawings, etc.
  • Revise and create work drawings, P&IDs and other documentation and submit for approval to supervision
  • Work closely with maintenance, production & engineering teams to achieve common goals
  • Identify & execute minor improvement projects
  • Ensure work follows company HSE policies and procedures, quality, schedule, budget, security, industry standards and best practices
  • Demonstrate continuous improvement to enhance operations, decrease turnaround times, and streamline work processes
  • Provide mentorship and training of Instrumentation and control personnel and Apprentices

Qualifications

 

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a mining or heavy industrial environment
  • Minimum qualifications of either: Instrument trade certification Or a thorough understanding of:
    • Instrumentation devices and process use
    • Process control systems (PLC)
    • Familiarity with ControlLogix, Studio 5000, RS Linx
    • Instrumentation installations and best practices
    • Experience in mentoring of peer personnel
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organization and planning skills
  • Proactivity and ability to work independently
  • Provide quality, detail-oriented safety driven results
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Computer literate and advanced skills in the Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Word, MS Project, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Working knowledge of CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems)
  • Valid driver’s license 

 

Preferred Skills:

 

  • Ability to work at a remote location camp on a 2 weeks on/2 weeks off rotation
  • Comfortable working and living in close quarters with the team
  • Ability to maintain high levels of performance over 12-hour shift
  • Self-motivated, ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to lift/move up to 50lbs throughout a work shift
  • Ability to work in extreme weather conditions
