Reporting to Supply Chain Manager the Strategic Sourcing Specialist will be responsible for improving the BW Gold supply chain through the selection of supply partners for the business through forward purchasing arrangements in a manner that is cost-efficient, promotes innovation, and minimizes risk. You will be managing categories; sourcing, securing and reviewing vendors; evaluating the cost and quality of goods or services; analyzing data and information related to vendor management; and running projects to deliver business benefits.

Responsibilities

  • Supplier Identification and Selection: Strategic sourcing specialists conduct market research, assess supplier capabilities, and identify potential vendors based on various factors like price, quality, reliability, and risk. Leads end-to-end sourcing events (RFI, RFQ, RFP), including documentation, evaluation and award recommendations.
  • Negotiation and Contract Management: They negotiate contracts with suppliers, ensuring favorable terms for the company, and manage the contract lifecycle, monitoring performance and compliance.
  • Cost Optimization: A core focus is on reducing costs by identifying cost-saving opportunities, negotiating better pricing, and implementing efficient sourcing strategies.
  • Risk Management: They assess and mitigate potential risks associated with sourcing, such as supply chain disruptions, quality issues, and supplier financial stability.
  • Relationship Management: Building and maintaining strong relationships with key suppliers is vital for ensuring a reliable and efficient supply chain.
  • Data Analysis: They analyze spend data, market trends, and supplier performance to inform sourcing decisions and identify areas for improvement.
  • Strategic Planning: Strategic sourcing specialists contribute to the development and implementation of the overall sourcing strategy for the organization.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., supply chain management, business, economics).
  • 3-5 years of experience in procurement or supply chain management; preference will be given to candidates with mining experience. 
  • Proficiency in data analysis and relevant software (e.g., Excel, ERP systems).
  • Knowledge of procurement processes, contract management, and supply chain management.
  • Understanding of market trends and supplier landscape.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with stakeholders.

 

Preferred Skills

  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written skills, with experience drafting reports and presenting to stakeholders (e.g., mine managers, regulators). Comfortable working with diverse groups, including remote site personnel and corporate offices.
  • Adaptability: Ability to thrive in a dynamic, safety-critical environment, including remote mine sites with fly-in/fly-out schedules. Resilience in handling operational pressures like production delays or equipment breakdowns.
