Under the guidance of the Lead Health & Hygiene, the Industrial Hygiene Advisor will have the opportunity to acquire and apply techniques related to occupational hygiene. The Industrial Hygiene Advisor will carry out assignments using their knowledge and experience in dealing with chemical, physical, and biological agents, as well as utilizing instrumentation and sampling materials.

 

Location: Blackwater Mine Site - located 160km southwest of Prince George, BC. 

 

Schedule: Two (2) Weeks On - Two (2) Weeks Off Rotation

Responsibilities

  • Actively participate in Blackwater Mine’s health, safety, and hygiene programs to ensure a firm and healthy work environment.
  • An Industrial Hygiene Advisor you will ensure assessing potential health risks, collecting and analyzing samples, and team up on hazard mitigation.
  • Assemble and install filter media to collect personal and area samples to support exposures monitoring.
  • Prepare and deliver industrial hygiene, safety, and/or hazardous materials training courses.
  • Oversee the Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (WHMIS) and maintain the electronic Safety Data Sheet (SDS) binder system.
  • Conduct occupational hygiene risk assessments and exposure assessments for diverse range of chemical, physical, and biological hazards at the mine site.
  • Produce and maintain chain of custody forms for samples, analyze results, and write reports.
  • Conduct assessments for Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) in confined spaces, develop and review ventilation plans, and prepare and review safe operating procedures.
  • Operate and maintain testing equipment and instruments, including air-sampling pumps, real-time dust monitoring equipment, temperature and moisture meters, and calibrators.
  • Assist in assessing exposure to welding fumes, heavy metals, silica, isocyanates, and Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) and chemicals. Conduct surface wipe sampling, perform illumination surveys, noise mapping, personal noise dosimetry, and ergonomic assessments.
  • Experience in developing safety management systems, including audit and inspection protocols, safe operating procedures, exposure control plans, and generating monthly reports.
  • Review and provide input for sampling plans.
    Assist the Lead – Health & Hygiene with other duties as required.

Qualifications

  • B.Sc., in Occupational Health and Safety, master’s degree in industrial Hygiene, or two-years diploma in Occupational and Environmental Health, Occupational Health and safety is required.
  • Certification or working towards certification as a ROHT (Registered Occupational Hygiene Technologist), Canadian Registered Safety Technician (CRST) is an asset.
  • 2-5 years or experience working in a similar role in heavy industry or mining is considered an asset.
  • A sound and practical knowledge of the principles of industrial hygiene and sampling procedures.
  • Motivated self-starters with excellent organizational skills; able to work under minimal supervision and be able to manage several tasks simultaneously.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills with a capability to communicate complex ideas to all levels.
  • Excellent computer skills with the ability to track and analyze data as well as manage project timelines. i.e., MS Word, Power Point, Excel are necessary.
  • Ability to work at a remote location camp on a 2 weeks on/2 weeks off rotation.
  • Comfortable working and living in close quarters with the team.
  • Ability to maintain high levels of performance over 12-hour shift.
  • Strong understanding of health promotion principles, wellness strategies, and behavioral change techniques.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage and educate diverse audiences.
  • Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
    Proficiency in Microsoft Office suites and health information management systems.
