Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Process Mechanical Engineer – Business Improvement is responsible for identifying, leading, and executing production optimization initiatives across the mine site. This role integrates closely with Processing, Metallurgy, Mining, Maintenance, Infrastructure, Environment, and Finance to unlock performance and drive value creation. The successful candidate will combine technical excellence in mechanical engineering with strong business improvement skills to deliver measurable gains in safety, reliability, efficiency, and cost control. This position plays a critical role in supporting the mine site with a strong link to the Operations Manager, General Manager, corporate teams, and long-term planning. All responsibilities are to be carried out in alignment with Blackwater Gold’s eight behavioural standards: honesty, dependability, respect, confidence, courage, consistency, passion, and innovation.

Key Responsibilities & Deliverables
Safety:
• Demonstrate effective safety leadership by addressing and enforcing BW Golds’ safety standards, procedures, and safety systems.
• Identifying and leading safety improvement initiatives.
Business Improvement:
• Lead the identification, development, and execution plans to optimize the asset.
• Take direction from the various operational managers and aid them in rapid and safe execution of improvement initiatives.
• Collaborate with mining, processing, maintenance, and finance to create optimized business improvement plans.
• Establish rigorous tracking systems for multifaceted projects that include schedules, production improvements, and cost improvements.
• A driven individual that can interact well with multifaceted teams in the field and in the office in order to maximize the extraction of value.
• Coordinate feedback sessions with the relevant leadership to drive initiatives forward relentlessly.
• Maintain and update improvement registers and communicate on progress regularly.
• Define and detail scopes of work as required.
• Establish and maintain positive relationships with all stakeholders.
Environmental Compliance:
• Ensure compliance with environmental regulations by implementing best practices in mining operations.
• Develop and implement environmental management plans.
Budgeting and Cost Control:
• Prepare and manage budgets for business improvement initiatives.
• Detailed cost analysis resulting in value creation.
• Ability to aid Finance and Department Manager in budget creation and review.
• General input, oversight, and assistance on all site budgets as required.
• Identify cost-saving opportunities and implement cost control measures.
Communication and Collaboration:
• Collaborate company wide to ensure seamless integration of business improvement initiatives across all functions.
• Communicate effectively with stakeholders, regulatory bodies, and other relevant parties.
Data Analysis and Reporting:
• Analyze data related to operational activities and provide regular reports to management.
• Use data-driven insights to optimize operational processes and address challenges.
• Work with Technical Services and Mill Metallurgy to ensure site production data is well reported. The data must be kept to a high standard and analyzed consistently to support operational excellence.
• Aid in the development and regularly improve all internal and external reporting systems. This includes and is not limited to mining, maintenance, processing, finance, safety, environment.
Contractor Management:
• Engage and manage contractors as required. Scope and execution of various site wide projects.
• Compilation of project engineering schedules, budget, checklists and forecasts.
• Coordination and checking of engineering deliverables.
• Contractor and subcontractor liaison and management.
• Weekly and Monthly project status reports.
• Assist procurement with compilation, review, and equalization of tender contracts and subsequent recommendation for reward.
Strategic Business Planning:
• Aid in development of the strategic business plan with input from all departments.
• Coordinate operational and technical aspects on site.
• Other duties as required.
