Reporting to the Senior Geologist, the Mine Service Crew – Grade Control is responsible for collecting grade control samples from an RC drill and preparing samples for laboratory analysis. The geology team is responsible for defining ore and waste zones within the deposit and estimating ore metal grades.

 

Location: Blackwater Mine site 

 

Schedule: Two (2) Weeks On – Two (2) Weeks Off Rotation

Responsibilities

  • Actively participate in Blackwater Gold's health, safety, and hygiene programs to ensure a firm and healthy work environment.
  • Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) and safety protocols to ensure safe and efficient drilling operations.
  • Coordinate drill moves with mining operations.
  • Collect samples from the Reverse Circulation (RC) drill and record basic drill hole and sample information.
  • Monitor drilling sample quality.
  • Deliver samples from the drill to the prep lab.
  • Prepare and label sample bags for the RC drill.
  • Perform basic sample preparation including drying, weighing and operating a riffle splitter.
  • Adhere to sample preparation procedures to ensure the accuracy, precision, and reliability of analytical results.
  • Prepare samples for delivery to the external laboratory facility, recording relevant information such sample weight, sample ID number.
  • Prepare and insert QA/QC samples for analysis.
  • Collecting blast hole samples for ML/ARD management plan.
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment in the laboratory by following good laboratory practices and safety protocols.
  • Attend daily pre-start meetings / toolbox talks.
  • Duties may include assisting with General Labourer activities to support Mine Operations as requested by the Open Pit Shift Boss and aligned with the Geology Superintendent.
  • The Mine Service Crew - Grade Control personnel at Blackwater may from time to time move between departments to support employee development and business needs and should be prepared for this when accepting their role.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience working around drilling rigs or using laboratory equipment is an asset.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Computer skills including use of Microsoft Office suite including word, outlook and excel.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills for accurate sample handling, record keeping, and data analysis.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and independently with minimal supervision.
  • Valid Class 5 drivers licence.
