Overview

Reporting to the Senior Mine Engineer, the Surveyor conducts activities related to mine survey functions, providing geospatial data and control to ensure the safety and efficiency of the mining operation. This role involves contributing input to the design and development of mine surveying practices that support production and regulatory compliance.

 

Location: Blackwater Mine Site

 

Schedule: Two (2) Weeks On - Two (2) Weeks Off Rotation

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate effective safety leadership by addressing and enforcing BW Golds safety standards, procedures, and safety systems.
• Comply with mining regulations and follow BW Gold safety, quality and environmental standards in all aspects of work.
• Perform the day-to-day mine surveying activities and provide support to the mine engineering and operations.
• Interpret engineering drawings and produce Deswik CAD layout and material take-offs.
• Perform routine drone scans and process as-built data for mining and stockpiling areas.
• Perform conventional survey activities – grade, layout, and as-builts within the open pit, stockpiles, and other infrastructure areas.
• Perform all post-processing activities to deliver accurate data in the required format.


• Maintain surface control points.
• Support ore control process with ore/waste split marking.
• Develop and maintain mining status map in Deswik CAD.
• Develop and maintain monthly topographical surface and map in Deswik CAD.
• Develop and maintain deepest mined surface and map in Deswik CAD.
• Support month-end volume reconciliation process in Deswik CAD.
• Support HPGPS mining systems implementation and maintenance.
• Support geotechnical monitoring systems implementation and maintenance.
• Perform geotechnical monitoring inspections and geospatial data interpretation.
• Support mine engineering and mine operations with execution design and layout work.
• Maintain a digitized site master utilities file.
• Manage inventory of survey consumables.
• Evaluation and reporting on design compliance.
• Proactively maintain survey gear.
• Develop and update (as required) Survey standard operating procedures, guidelines and processes.

Qualifications

• Preferably 3-5 years of surveying experience working in mining or heavy civil earthwork environment.
• Experience using Leica, Topcon or Trimble Geosystems Equipment.
• Experience using CAD based software (Deswik preference) to prepare designs and visualize collected data.
• Must possess effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and decision-making abilities.
• Proficient with setting up base stations, survey equipment, and completing civil survey work.
• Must be skilled in unsupervised use of RTK GPS and Total Station systems including equipment setup and problem resolution.
• Experience with operating drones to capture and analyze survey data is an asset.
• Hold or obtain required Transport Canada licensing for drone operation, where applicable.
• Ability and willingness to split time between office and field.
• Ability to drive in congested high traffic mining and construction areas.
• Ability to walk in similar congested/high traffic construction areas as well as more remote areas on site (uneven footing is commonplace).

• Ability to work at a remote location camp on a 2 weeks on/2 weeks off rotation.
• Ability to maintain high levels of performance over 12-hour shift.
• Ability to work in extreme weather conditions.
• Ability to lift/move up to 50lbs throughout a work shift.
