Overview

Reporting to the Environmental Lead, the Environmental Senior Technician is responsible for safely and effectively leading and supporting environmental field program execution. The Senior Technician will focus on coordinating environmental programs with the Environmental Lead and providing leadership, training, and instruction to the Environmental Technicians on environmental field programs. The senior technician will also be responsible for ensuring accurate data is collected and uploaded appropriately and efficiently.

 

Location: Blackwater Mine Site

 

Schedule: Two (2) Weeks On - Two (2) Weeks Off Rotation

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate effective safety leadership by addressing and enforcing BW Golds safetystandards, procedures, and safety systems.
  • Lead and assist with on-site environmental field programs (i.e., environmental monitoring,erosion and sediment control, surface and groundwater monitoring, sediment and sampling,wildlife surveys and monitoring etc.)
  • Coordinate and assist with environmental field program planning and execution.
  • Participate in fish habitat compensation projects.
  • Field data management and organization, including database entry and review.
  • Consultant / contractor logistics and technical support.
  • Regular use of boat and off-road vehicles (e.g. snowmobiles, ATV/UTV).
  • Interact and communicate effectively within a multi-disciplinary team consisting of environmentalprofessionals, engineers, and contractors.
  • Ensure that BW Gold environmental commitments and Health and Safety (H&S) policies areadhered to in all team activities

Qualifications

  • Technical diploma with an Environmental/Biological focus (e.g. Environmental Science, NaturalResources, Wildlife/Fish, Engineering)
  • 3 to 5 years of experience, preferably in a mining environment
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license
  • Extensive experience with various environmental monitoring programs
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite of Products, Microsoft Teams
  • Experience with off-road vehicles (e.g. snowmobiles, ATV’s/UTV’s, boats) and Occupational firstaid are considered strong assets.
  • Familiarity with relevant BC and federal legislation and regulations (e.g., Environmentalmanagement Act, Mines Act, HSRC, Fisheries Act).
  • Strong data management, time management and organizational skills with the ability to takeclear, concise and defensible field notes
  • Strong communication skills and ability to manage technicians
  • Strong multi-tasking and proven ability to manage competing priorities based on site demands
  • Safety conscious, reliable, self-starter and a team player
  • Eligible for registration in professional discipline is considered an asset (e.g. EP, P. Ag, R.P.Bio.)
  • Physically able to travel and work in the field for extended periods in inclement weather
  • Mechanical aptitude to use off-road vehicles and environmental monitoring equipment and totroubleshoot issues
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work at a remote location camp on a 2 weeks on/2 weeks off rotation
  • Comfortable working and living in close quarters with the team
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Excellent leadership skills and ability to train others on environmental programsCreated
