Overview

Reporting to the Superintendent - Environment, the Environment Advisor is responsible for understanding and providing direction on Blackwater Mine’s Management Plans, and Provincial and Federal Permit conditions to ensure compliance. The Blackwater Mine Environment department is a fast paced and demanding environment with critical attention to detail required.

 

Location: Blackwater Mine Site

 

Schedule: Two (2) Weeks On - Two (2) Weeks Off Rotation

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate effective safety leadership by addressing and enforcing BW Golds safetystandards, procedures, and safety systems.
  • Understanding of compliance requirements in BWG’s:
    o Environmental Assessment Certificate (primarily through implementation of ManagementPlans);
    o Federal and Provincial Permits and Authorizations;
  • Communicating requirements of the above list to the technical lead and assistance indevelopment of field programs to satisfy regulatory requirements.
  • Training technicians to perform field surveys and ensuring consistency of data collected.
  • Data QAQC, management and analysis.
  • Review of data collected by field crews to ensure completeness and accuracy, and identify gapsto be addressed.
  • Lead report writing in line with monthly, quarterly and annual requirements
  • Communication with consultants to ensure any gaps in deliverables or understanding areaddressed.
  • Supporting stakeholder and regulatory inspections, meetings and information requests.
  • Establishing and updating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Management Plans asrequired for compliance requirements.
  • Preparing presentations and attending meetings with various stakeholders, as required.
  • Support EMS deliverables
  • Support on additional field programs related to the Environment department, as required.

Qualifications

  • Eligible to be a Registered Professional Biologist (RPBio) in British Columbia.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Environmental Science, or a related Natural ResourcesManagement field.
  • 5-10 years of experience in roles that include the following tasks:
    o Supervision and employee management;
    o Understanding regulatory compliance conditions and implementation of programs;
    o Data management;
    o Data analysis;
    o Technical report writing;
    o QAQC compliance reviews;
    o Stakeholder communication; and
    o Remote field work utilizing and/or working out of different equipment (i.e. snow mobiles,trucks, side by sides, helicopters, boats, ice augers, chainsaws, trail cameras, automatedrecording units, etc.).
  • Detail oriented execution and review of compliance programs.

Preferred:

  • Current Registered Professional Biologist Designation in British Columbia.
  • Master’s degree in biology (or similar).
  • Ability to work at a remote location camp on a 2 weeks on/2 weeks off rotation
  • Comfortable working and living in close quarters with the team
  • Ability to maintain high levels of performance over 12-hour shift
  • Ability to lift/move up to 50lbs throughout a work shift
  • Ability to work in extreme weather conditions
