Overview

Reporting to the Supply Chain Manager, the Contracts Engineer will be responsible for developing, administering, and managing contracts that support BW Gold’s operational and project requirements. This role ensures commercial compliance, minimizes risk, enhances contractor performance, and supports the delivery of safe, cost-effective, and high-quality services to the business.

 

Location: Blackwater Mine Site

 

Schedule: Two (2) Weeks On - Two (2) Weeks Off Rotation

Responsibilities

  • Contract Strategy & Planning: Conduct market assessments, identify commercial risks, support development of contracting strategies, and collaborate with engineering, operations, and project teams to define detailed scopes of work and contract requirements.
  • Contract Administration: Maintain oversight of contract performance, KPIs, commercial terms, and compliance. Manage contract changes, claims, disputes, cost adjustments, and risk controls. Ensure documentation accuracy and maintain audit-ready records.
  • Operational Support & Compliance Oversight: Ensure contractors adhere to BW Gold’s policies, including safety, environment and other requirements. Monitor adherence to contractual obligations such as schedule, staffing levels, equipment commitments, and quality standards.
  • Cost Optimization: Analyze pricing structures, evaluate contractor performance, identify cost-saving opportunities, and recommend improvements in service quality, efficiency, and commercial outcomes.
  • Risk Management: They assess and mitigate potential risks associated with sourcing, such as supply chain disruptions, quality issues, and supplier financial stability.
  • Relationship Management: Build strong working relationships with contractors, internal clients,  and cross-functional teams. Provide subject matter expertise to operational groups on contract obligations, performance expectations, and commercial processes.
    Data Analysis: They analyze spend data, market trends, and supplier performance to inform sourcing decisions and identify areas for improvement.

Qualifications

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills.
  • Ability to understand technical scopes of work and interpret engineering requirements.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and relevant software (e.g., Excel, ERP systems).
  • Knowledge of procurement processes, contract management, and supply chain management.
  • Understanding of market trends and supplier landscape.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with stakeholders.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., supply chain management, business, economics, engineering).
  • Experience in procurement or supply chain management and mining
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written skills, with experience drafting reports and presenting to stakeholders (e.g., mine managers, regulators). Comfortable working with diverse groups, including remote site personnel and corporate offices.
  • Adaptability: Ability to thrive in a dynamic, safety-critical environment, including remote mine sites with fly-in/fly-out schedules. Resilience in handling operational pressures like production delays or equipment breakdowns.
