Overview

Reporting to the Senior Mine Engineer, the Mine Technologist will be responsible for hands-on technical support to Mine Operations. For Drill and Blast, this includes the design, planning, and QA/QC of drilling and blasting activities. This role will work closely with the Drill and Blast Engineer and Short-Range Planner to ensure drill, blast, and mining activities meet the required business goals. For planning, the Mine Technologist will complete short term mine plans and operational designs around site.

Schedule: Two (2) Weeks On - Two (2) Weeks Off Rotation

Responsibilities

Design and Planning

  • Drill pattern, explosives loading and blast timing designs.
  • 2 Week drill and blast plans delivered weekly and/or 2 Week Load and Haul plans delivered weekly.
  • Work with geology to incorporate Grade Control Drill plans.
  • Ensure Drill and Blast designs are aligned with ongoing optimization initiatives.
  • Create blast radii and exclusion maps for all blasts.
  • Complete operational designs to support the mine site.
  • Assist in tracking and communicating dig limits, dump locations, haul routes, and other operational controls to ensure compliance with plan and safety requirements

Execution and QA/QC

  • Conduct field inspections to verify drilling accuracy (QA/QC) regarding hole depth, collar location, and deviation.
  • Conduct field inspections to verify proper explosives loading and stemming accuracy (QA/QC).
  • Liaise daily with Drill & Blast Supervisors and Blasters to resolve operational bottlenecks.
  • Monitor blast performance and post-blast results (fragmentation analysis, heave, floor conditions).
  • Monitor drill and blast consumables usage.
  • Actively support the geotechnical engineer
  • Conduct vibration monitoring and perform wall control analyses.

Safety and Compliance

  • Review all activities for compliance with site safety standards, management plans and the Health, Safety and Reclamation Code for Mines in BC.
  • Participate in risk assessments and root cause analyses when required.
  • Conduct field inspections to verify drilling and loading procedures are being followed.

Continuous Improvement

  • Be an active participant in the Mine to Mill optimization programs.

 

Qualifications

  • Mine Technologist Diploma or equivalent.
  • 3 or more years of mine operations and/or technical mining experience required.
  • Proficiency in mine planning software, such as Deswik, and relevant engineering tools.
  • Experienced with open pit survey methods, systems, and processes.
  • Strong user of Microsoft suite of products.
  • Strong project management skills and experience in leading engineering projects.
  • Team player that can quickly generate productive working relationships and can influence others.
  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail.

  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team effort as well as individually.

  • Strong interpersonal with both oral and written communication skills.

  • Experience using Power BI and Power Query

  • Experience generating power automate worlflows

  • Experience using VBA scripts to automate excel based work processes

  • Ability to work at a remote camp location on a 2 weeks on/2 weeks off rotation.

  • Ability to maintain high levels of performance over 12-hour shift.

  • Ability to work in extreme weather conditions.

  • Start up and production experience an asset.

  • Short Range Planning experience considered an asset as mine technical coverage will be required.
