Reporting to the Project Manager - FHOP, the Superintendent Environment – FHOP is responsible for mentoring and coaching of environmental field crews, and consultants to ensure completion of the FHOP (Fish Habitat Offsetting Project) construction programs, accountable for water, waste, wildlife, ESC, aquatic health monitoring programs, complete compliance audits and lead required reporting. The FHOP program is one of the largest in Canada related to a metal mining operations with over 320,000 m2 in instream habitat and 2.4 million m2 of riparian habitat compensation.

Term End Date:
• Demonstrate effective safety leadership by addressing and enforcing BW Gold’s safety standards, procedures, and safety systems
• Be on-site environmental lead for all FHOP works
• Ensure compliance with the CEMP (Construction Environment Management Plan)
• Main point of contact for the environment department with Construction team and Managers to oversee and supervise day-to-day construction activities of the environment team and consultants on the FHOP
• Accountability for implementation and adherence to project’s regulatory requirements, environmental and social commitments
• Accountability for water, waste, wildlife, riparian, aquatic health monitoring programs (e.g., fisheries, environmental effects monitoring, land disturbance and biodiversity management), and other related site environmental programs, including work plan development, scheduling, lead field programs, data assimilation, interpretation, and drafting reports
• Manage team and consultant scheduling including material needs
• Mentoring and coaching of environmental field crews, Indigenous monitors and consultants to ensure completion of field programs (including mentoring of strong field data collection skills)
• Ability to successfully operate in a high pressure environment
• Complete compliance audits against permit/license requirements and social obligations
• Assist with preparation of permit applications and track approvals, or amendments as required
• Involvement in leading preparation and execution of regulatory and KPI reporting
• Commitment to Health & Safety and Cultural Awareness programs
• Invoice and progress claim processing and budget accountability
• Periodically support with the Blackwater Mine as required
• Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Environmental Science, Aquatic Biology or a related Natural Resources Management field
• Minimum of 5-10 years of experience, preferably in a mining environment with experience leading and supervising teams accountable for monitoring and compliance programs
• Familiarity with relevant BC provincial and federal legislation (e.g., Environmental management Act, Mines Act, HSRC, Fisheries Act)
• Strong technical writing and data analysis skills
• Proven ability to build and maintain professional relationships with construction work crews and supervisors
• Current registration or eligible for registration in a BC professional discipline (e.g., EP, P.Ag, R.P.Bio.)
• Experience with off-road vehicles (e.g., snowmobiles, ATV’s/UTV’s, boats)
• BC Mines’ Supervisor certification and Occupational first aid certifications preferred
• Experience with fish habitat offsetting projects and/or reclamation projects is considered strong assets
• Experience with bird/wildlife surveys and/or fishery works considered a strong asset
Skills
• Ability to work at a remote location camp and/or in Vanderhoof on a 2 weeks on/2 weeks off rotation
• Comfortable working and living in close quarters with the team
• Ability to maintain high levels of performance over 12-hour shift
• Ability to lift/move up to 50lbs throughout a work shift
• Ability to work in extreme weather conditions
