Reporting to the Construction Manager, with a functional reporting line to the EPCM Safety manager, the Safety Advisor – Construction provides senior-level health and safety leadership for Phase 1a and 2 construction activities at the Blackwater Mine.
This role is responsible for overseeing contractor safety performance, managing high-risk construction activities, supporting regulatory compliance under the BC Mine Act and Health, Safety and Reclamation Code (HSRC), and embedding a proactive safety culture across all construction work fronts.

Position: Fixed Term
Construction Safety Leadership
• Provide visible, field-based safety leadership across all Phase 1a and 2 construction work fronts.
• Advise Construction Managers and Superintendents on hazard identification, risk mitigation, and safe work execution.
• Support the Construction Safety Supervisor in ongoing initiatives and provide coverage as needed.
• Lead by example in enforcing BW Gold’s Life Saving Rules, safety standards, and permit-to-work systems.
• Influence contractor leadership to uphold safety accountability at the supervisory level.
Contractor Oversight & Risk Management
• Monitor and verify contractor compliance with site safety management systems and regulatory requirements.
• Participate in and review Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), FLRAs, lift plans, and high-risk work permits.
• Oversee safety controls for high-risk activities including:
o Heavy civil earthworks
o Structural steel erection
o Crane and critical lifts
o Working at heights
o Confined space entry
o Energization and tie-ins
o Temporary power installations
• Ensure effective control of simultaneous operations (SIMOPS) across multiple contractors.
Incident Prevention & Investigation
• Lead or support incident investigations using root cause methodologies.
• Verify quality and completeness of incident reporting.
• Track corrective actions to closure and validate effectiveness.
• Identify trends and proactively implement preventative measures.
Regulatory Compliance & Interface
• Ensure compliance with the BC Mine Act and Health, Safety and Reclamation Code.
• Interface professionally with regulatory inspectors when required.
• Support internal and external audits.
• Maintain documentation aligned with regulatory and corporate standards.
Safety Systems & Reporting
• Support implementation and continuous improvement of the Construction Safety Management Plan and other management plans
• Monitor leading and lagging indicators.
• Provide accurate weekly and monthly safety performance reports.
• Participate in construction planning meetings to integrate safety into scheduling and execution strategies.
Training & Workforce Readiness
• Verify contractor training compliance and competency records.
• Support onboarding and site orientation programs.
• Ensure emergency response preparedness for construction activities.
• Coach supervisors in field-level risk assessment and safety leadership practices.
• Other duties as agreed to support the team deliver a safe & productive outcome.
