Reporting to the Supervisor – Mobile Maintenance, Welding, the Welder is responsible for performing welding, fabrication and repair on mobile and fixed mining equipment.

 

Location: Blackwater Mine site

 

Schedule: Two (2) Weeks On – Two (2) Weeks Off Rotation

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate effective safety leadership by addressing and enforcing BW Golds’ safety standards, procedures, and safety systems.
  • Perform welding, fabrication, and repair on mobile and fixed mining equipment (e.g., haul trucks, crushers, conveyors, piping systems).
  • Interpret blueprints, drawings, and welding procedures to ensure accurate and compliant work.
  • Conduct structural repairs on heavy equipment components, including buckets, frames, and wear plates.
  • Complete preventative maintenance welding to minimize equipment downtime.
  • Inspect welds for quality, strength, and conformance to specifications.
  • Operate welding equipment safely (SMAW, FCAW, GMAW, oxy-acetylene cutting).
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a safe and organized condition.
  • Collaborate with maintenance and operations teams to prioritize work and meet production targets.
  • Accurately complete work orders, maintenance logs, and safety documentation.
  • Adhere strictly to site safety standards, procedures, and environmental regulations.

Qualifications

  • Journeyperson Welder Certification (Red Seal or interprovincial certification).
  • Minimum 3–5 years of welding experience, ideally in mining, heavy industrial, or construction environments.
  • Proficiency in multiple welding processes (SMAW, FCAW; GMAW considered an asset).
  • Experience working on heavy equipment and structural steel repairs.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and welding symbols.
  • Strong understanding of welding safety standards and procedures.
  • Valid driver’s license (Class 5 minimum; higher class considered an asset).
  • Experience in a gold mining operation or similar open-pit environment.
  • CWB (Canadian Welding Bureau) tickets or equivalent certifications.
  • Experience with gouging, line boring, or machining.
  • First Aid, Fall Protection, Confined Space, or other safety certifications preferred
  • Ability to work at a remote location camp on a 2 weeks on/2 weeks off rotation.
  • Comfortable working and living in close quarters with the team
  • Ability to maintain high levels of performance over 12-hour shift, including night shift
  • Ability to lift/move up to 50lbs throughout a work shift
  • Ability to work in extreme weather conditions
  • Basic knowledge of mechanical systems, tools, and equipment.
  • Good problem-solving skills and mechanical aptitude.
  • Willingness to learn and follow instructions from experienced mechanics and mentors.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
