Reporting to the Supervisor – Processing, the Operator – Water Treatment is responsible for operating and maintaining water treatment systems specific to the needs of the mill’s operation. Our Processing department is responsible for the efficient and environmentally responsible processing of ore to extract valuable minerals.

 

Location: Blackwater Mine site 

 

Schedule: Two (2) Weeks On – Two (2) Weeks Off Rotation

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate strong safety leadership by adhering to and enforcing BW Gold safety standards, procedures, and systems.
• Operate and monitor water treatment systems including reactors, filtration units, chemical dosing systems, and reclaim systems.
• Conduct routine water sampling and analysis; adjust treatment processes based on results to meet water quality targets.
• Perform data analysis and trending of water quality, flows, and system performance to support operational decisions and optimization.
• Monitor site-wide water systems, including ponds, tanks, and storage facilities, and support overall water balance management.
• Execute and follow water management system procedures, including water transfer plans, pond level management, and contingency actions.
• Operate and inspect pumping and distribution systems, including pumps, pipelines, valves, and sumps.
• Verify flow paths, line routing, and isolation points prior to initiating water transfer activities.
• Perform routine inspections of water infrastructure and identify/report abnormal conditions such as leaks, pressure loss, or water quality issues.
• Safely handle, store, and use treatment chemicals in accordance with site procedures and regulatory requirements.
• Respond to operational upsets including pump failures, line breaks, and water quality exceedances; implement containment and escalation procedures as required.
• Maintain accurate records of water volumes, pump hours, chemical usage, and water quality data.
• Coordinate with Mining, Environmental, Infrastructure and Processing teams to ensure water meets recycle and discharge requirements.
• Communicate operational issues and system changes effectively to supervisors and relevant stakeholders.
• Participate in required training and demonstrate competency in water management systems and procedures

 

Qualifications

  • 2 years of experience in water treatment or sewage treatment plants, with processing/industrial water treatment experience prefeed
  • Level I Water Treatment Certification 
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and trouble shooting skills
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, diagrams, and schematics.

  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.

  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and independently with minimal supervision.

  • Ability to work at a remote location camp on a 2 weeks on/2 weeks off rotation.

  • Comfortable working and living in close quarters with the team.

  • Ability to maintain high levels of performance over 12-hour shift.

  • Ability to lift/move up to 50lbs throughout a work shift.

  • Ability to work in extreme weather conditions.

  • Ability to work night shift.
