Schedule: Two (2) Weeks On – Two (2) Weeks Off Rotation

Reporting to the Manager – Capital Projects the Senior Project Engineer, Earthworks is responsible for overseeing the day to day management of the earthworks projects and structures on the Blackwater Gold Site.

 

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate courageous leadership by promoting a safe work environment, ensuring compliance with BW Gold’s Health, Safety and Environmental Programs and Management Plan, and the BC Mines Act.
• Responsible for construction supervision and administration including supervision of BW Gold Construction, contractors and consultants for assigned portions of the works.
• Ensure overall schedules, budgets and target deliverables are achieved to a consistently high standard. Report and respond immediately to change to ensure scopes are completed on time and on budget.
• Ensure work quality is of a high standard and in accordance with the project contract, drawings, technical specifications, specific plans and statutory and industry standards.
• Manage cost and schedule against the baselines and provide regular updates on the project status.
• Track and report on installed quantities and productivity.
• Initiate, maintain and ensure safe keeping of accurate records of daily progress and events including regular photographic records.
• Attend weekly contractor meetings and ensure minutes are taken and issued as appropriate.
• Review contractor’s progress claims against contracts, including any authorized changes.
• Complete daily, weekly and monthly reporting.
• Ensure weekly safety audits occur with published findings.
• Manage the request for information (RFIs) process with the Engineer of Record and ensure they are responded to in a timely fashion.
• Oversee and manage Quality Control and Quality Assurance, ensuring testing and inspections are completed as outlined in the Technical Specifications.
• Review detailed design drawings produced by engineering firms prior to being issued for construction.
• Develop requests for proposals for purchasing materials, services and construction contracts.
• Coordinate and communicate with Operations team on the delivery and placement of materials in the Tailings Storage Facility.
• Complete and document regular inspections of water management structures on site at frequencies outlined in the Operation, Maintenance and Surveillance Manuals (OMS).
• Review and understand BW Golds Management Plans and ensure compliance with them.
• Work in a team environment and share skills/experience with other members of the team.

Qualifications

Registered with EGBC or eligible for transfer from another province or territory association with preference given to P.Eng designation 

• Civil engineering degree from a recognized post-secondary institution. Technical diplomas and relevant experience will also be considered.
• 5-7 years’ experience in earthworks construction. Preference given to experience in mining construction and tailings/water management structures.

• Experience in project coordination/management.
• Working knowledge of engineering design and modelling software’s. Preference given to AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or Deswik.
• Familiar with permitting and community relations practices and standards.
• Familiar and experienced in implementing and executing environmental best management practices.
• Ability to be flexible and manage a variety of assignments and situations simultaneously.
• Self-starter who can identify potential issues/concerns and manage the risk.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Must have valid drivers license.

• Ability to work at a remote location camp on a 2 weeks on/2 weeks off rotation
• Comfortable working and living in close quarters with the team
• Ability to maintain high levels of performance over 12-hour shift
• Ability to lift/move up to 50lbs throughout a work shift
• Ability to work in extreme weather conditions
• The ability to read and interpret specifications, technical drawings, schematics, and any other engineering documentation and/or reports
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with the project leadership team, personnel and contractors
• Strong knowledge of industry regulatory standards, codes and best practices
• Self-motivated, resourceful, and flexible team player
