Overview

Reporting to the Mining Manager, the Mining Superintendent is responsible for overseeing the safe and efficient extraction of ore through the supervision and control of mining operation team activities such as budgeting, planning, staffing and cost control. They carry out the strategic plan of the mining operation ensuring that objectives are consistent with the overall company plan. They assist the management team in developing the overall strategy for the mine.

Schedule: Three (3) Weeks On - Two (2) Weeks Off Rotation

 

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

 

• Demonstrate effective safety leadership by addressing and enforcing BW Gold’s safety standards, procedures, and safety systems.
• Lead and manage the fixed plant maintenance team, including supervisors, technicians, and tradespeople, to ensure compliance with safety regulations, maintenance schedules, and performance targets.
• Identify material risks and ensure adequate controls are implemented to safeguard the site from major safety and downtime events.
• Develop and implement maintenance strategies, programs, and procedures to optimize the reliability, availability and lifespan of fixed plant equipment and infrastructure, including crushers, conveyors, mills, and processing facilities.

• Plan and prioritize maintenance activities, shutdowns, and overhauls and coordination with production schedules, maintenance budgets, and equipment criticality assessments, minimizing downtime and production losses.
• Manage departmental budget and ensure costs are on target.
• Foster and develop a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, environmental standards, and company policies in all maintenance activities, including equipment inspections, repairs, and modifications.
• Manage conflict resolution promptly, appropriately, and effectively.

 

May be required to maintain a clean-shaven appearance (i.e. no facial hair) to ensure the safe and effective use of required personal protective equipment (PPE) associated with assigned duties.

Qualifications

 

• 10+ years of experience and maintenance leadership roles within the mining with a focus fixed plant maintenance.
• Experience with mine start ups considered an asset.
• Strong technical knowledge and expertise in fixed plant equipment systems, and processes, including crushers, conveyors, mills, and mineral processing equipment.
• Proficiency in computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS), maintenance planning software, and Microsoft Office Suites.

• Proven track record of success in developing and implementing maintenance strategies, reliability programs, and continuous improvement incentives to optimize equipment performance and minimize downtime.
• Excellent leadership and management skills, with the ability to coach, mentor, and motivate a diverse team of maintenance professionals to achieve departmental goals and objectives.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships, collaborate cross-functionally, and communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
• Familiarity with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS), mining, and construction regulations is essential.
• Strong commitment to safety, environmental stewardship, and regulatory compliance in all aspects of maintenance operations.
• Familiarity with managing contract services and collaborating with manufacturer representatives.
• Ability to work collaboratively an independently, taking initiative to drive improvements.
• Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities.
• Problem-solving skills to address unexpected challenges and emergencies.
• Experience in CMMS implementation highly regarded.
• Ability to work at a remote location camp on a 2 weeks on/2 weeks off rotation, or a 3 weeks on/2 weeks off rotation.
• Comfortable working and living in close quarters with the team.
• Ability to maintain high levels of performance over 12-hour shift.
