Reporting to the Manager, Contracts, the Senior Contracts Specialist is responsible for end-to-end commercial management of assigned contracts supporting Blackwater Mine operations and capital projects. Based in the Vancouver office with occasional travel to site, the role covers pre-award activities (sourcing, RFI, RFP, evaluation, and negotiation) through post-award administration, change management, and close-out.

Responsibilities

  • Contract Lifecycle Management: Manage assigned contracts from planning through close-out for equipment supply, maintenance and operating services, construction, labour, and professional services supporting mine operations and expansion.

  • Tendering, Evaluation and Negotiation: Prepare and coordinate RFI, RFP, and RFQ packages. Evaluate commercial proposals, negotiate terms and conditions, and recommend awards that deliver value, appropriate risk allocation, and schedule certainty while protecting company interests.

  • Contract Administration: Administer executed contracts, including correspondence, obligations and deliverables tracking, insurance and security, payment support, and compliance with company policy and delegation of authority.

  • Variations, Claims and Performance: Manage change orders, variations, and claims in a timely, well-documented manner. Monitor contractor performance against KPIs, deliverables, schedule, and budget, and escalate material issues to the Manager, Contracts.

  • Risk and Compliance: Identify contractual and commercial risks. Ensure contracts and contractor activities comply with company policies, the British Columbia Mines Act and related requirements, WorkSafeBC standards, and other applicable law.

  • Documentation, Systems and Reporting: Maintain accurate contract registers, records, and audit-ready files. Prepare status, risk, variation, and commitment reports for the Manager, Contracts and internal stakeholders. Use Pronto or the contract management system consistently.

  • Stakeholder Partnership: Work closely with operations, engineering, projects, supply chain, finance, legal, and contractors. Translate operational needs into clear commercial requirements and explain commercial issues in practical terms.

  • Process and Governance: Apply and help improve contract templates, procedures, and systems. Support audits and commercial governance. Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimum of 7 years of progressive contract administration or contracts management experience, with at least 3 to 4 years in mining, construction, resources, or heavy industry preferred. Proven ability to manage operational and capital project contracts with limited supervision.

  • Technical Knowledge: Strong working knowledge of commercial terms, risk allocation, and standard forms used in Canadian mining and construction (for example CCDC or owner templates). Familiarity with mining commercial practices and cost structures. Experience with Pronto or a comparable ERP or contract system is an asset.

  • Regulatory Expertise: Working knowledge of British Columbia mining and workplace requirements, including the Mines Act and WorkSafeBC expectations, and of company contracting governance.

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Commerce, Law, Engineering, Supply Chain, or a related field. A diploma in contract management plus equivalent experience will be considered. SCMP, CIPS, or a similar designation is an asset.

  • Communication and Negotiation: Strong written and verbal communication and negotiation skills. Ability to draft clear commercial correspondence, review contractual language, and explain commercial issues to technical and non-technical stakeholders in the Vancouver office and at site.
  • Commercial Judgement and Organization: Strong attention to detail, organization, and commercial judgement. Able to manage multiple packages and shifting priorities. This is a Vancouver office role with occasional travel to the Blackwater Mine site as required; it is not a fly-in, fly-out roster position.
